Funeral Costs in Cardiff, Barry & Caerphilly

We understand that arranging a funeral is one of the most difficult and emotional things that someone has to do, and concerns about funeral costs and fees can be a stressful burden to carry. That’s why at Ivor Thomas Funerals we make sure to give you all the information you need up front, removing the guesswork from planning a funeral.

From September 2021, it was made law that we have had to provide a standardised pricelist in a specific form. We believe that the way it’s laid out can be a little confusing, so have added an explanatory note to the document and a link to a full breakdown of all of our prices as well as those of the local crematoriums and cemeteries. Along with the Terms of Business and Disclosure of Interests, these can be found on our pricelist and legal documents page.

As our packages have always been extremely popular, we’ve kept them in an altered form and explained them in full below.

Please know that we build our packages and funerals around you, so if you want something that’s not included originally, we’ll add it on, and if you don’t want something, we will remove it from the cost.

Financial Help

We know that not everyone is in a position to pay for a funeral up front, and some will need to seek help from places outside of family and friends. Mark especially is quite knowledgeable about seeking funding from the DWP and alternate sources, and he can help with any paperwork required. Please get in touch with any questions that you may have.

We’ve based our packages on the prices of Thornhill Crem & Cardiff Cemeteries, however if you want the funeral somewhere else, we will alter the price depending on where you want the funeral. There will be no extra charge from us if the funeral takes place within 15 miles of CF14 4DB. Unattended Direct Cremation £1550

Direct Cremation is becoming more popular throughout the UK with families opting not to have a service
and just receiving the ashes back instead; following in the footsteps of David Bowie & Karl Lagerfeild in choosing not to go down a traditional route.

Attended Direct Cremation £1705

An Attended Direct Cremation gives you the chance to say a goodbye without a full service. The coffin is in the chapel before you arrive and there is a five minute service, giving you enough time for a reflection piece of music or a short reading to be read out by the funeral staff or someone of your choosing.

  • – A five minute service in the chapel

Pure Service Cremation £3325

A Pure Service Cremation is exactly as it says, purely a service at the crematorium. This is a perfect compromise between someone who didn’t want any fuss yet the family wanting the chance to say their goodbyes.

  • – Our Gwent coffin
  • – Doctors fees
  • – Cremation fee
  • – A service at the chapel at an agreed date and time

The Traditional Burial is historically is thought of as the customary funeral within the UK. The price quoted includes a service at the beautiful Cathays Chapels followed by a burial within a Cardiff Cemetery, however we can use whichever church or place of worship that holds a place in your heart.

FAQs & Advice

A burial is when someone is laid to rest within a grave. Cremation is when the person is cremated.
We understand things can change so as long as you let us know ASAP, we will always endeavour to make any changes you request.
Disbursements are essentially third party costs, the most common within a funeral being the burial or cremation fee, minister and doctors fees. Unlike most funeral directors, we include these within our fee to simplify the costs.
