About Ivor Thomas Funerals
Ivor Thomas Funerals originated from Mark Ivor’s vision while working at Cardiff Bereavement Services. Witnessing certain pricing and practices in the funeral industry, he identified a niche for a cost-effective service centred on families’ needs. Guided by the principle of partnering only with trusted individuals, Mark pitched his idea to his recently retired father, Ivor Neil, who shared his family-first ethos and commitment to a heartfelt service.

Launched in January 2019 and named to honour both men, the company has since grown into a family endeavour, with relatives and adopted members joining the Ivor Thomas Funerals team. Meet our dedicated staff below.
Neil
Born in Cathays, Cardiff, Neil started his working life with a carpentry apprenticeship, and is still carving and turning wood today. After serving with the REME and a successful career in building management, Neil was approached by his son Mark with the idea of starting Ivor Thomas Funerals. He gladly accepted, although he insists it was Sue’s idea to keep him out of the house!
Mark
After a year volunteering at the Belarusian Children’s Hospice, Mark took a job as Funeral Arranger for Babies and Children at Thornhill Cemetery. His work in helping families through the most difficult times of their lives showed him what his calling was, and so he decided to start Ivor Thomas Funerals – a funeral director committed to being honest, open, affordable and fair. Mark was shortlisted for funeral director of the year 2022 in the Good Funeral Awards.
Sue
After marrying Neil and raising their two children, Sue worked at a primary school and a specialist additional needs school until retirement; a job she loved. She has always put her artistic talents to use, making flower arrangements and displays, before taking a recognised course. Since then, she’s been our expert florist!
Natasha
Born and raised in Minsk, Belarus, Natasha qualified as a doctor before moving to Wales after meeting Mark. She now works as a scientist, and her training, knowledge and innate compassion makes her an invaluable asset to Ivor Thomas Funerals, helping us offer the utmost care to our families.
Sarah
Two years younger than her brother Mark, Sarah works with an organisation helping people with additional needs, and she also volunteers in a charity shop and as an Assistant Cub Leader. Despite being very busy, she always finds time to help out at the Ivor Thomas Funeral home and on funeral services.
David
Born in Splott, Cardiff and raised in Llanishen, Dave has been a family friend for well over a decade. With a previous history in banking and shipping, he brings a wealth of experience when it comes to administration and is also a dab hand as a bearer too!
Oli
Our youngest (and tallest) member of the team originates from Brighton and is studying Economics in University. By bearing at funerals and helping with the paperwork when needed, Oli give us that helping hand when we need it most.
Lew
Lew hails from the Gwent valley and is our main man behind the scenes, whilst also assisting at funerals. He plays the piano and has previously worked as a crematorium organist. Lew makes his own beers and wines, selling them at local fetes; and we've discovered he makes a decent cuppa too!
Tate
After graduating with a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, Tate worked in Family Law and Clinical Negligence, providing a unique perspective to the Ivor Thomas family. Tate brings a keen eye and empathetic ear to matters of administration and funeral planning.
