Direct Cremations in Cardiff, Barry & Caerphilly

Direct cremation services are becoming more and more popular, with the likes of David Bowie and Karl Lagerfield choosing this straight forward, no fuss option. These are funerals with no service or ceremony, meaning that after our initial meeting, the next time that we would need to meet is when we are handing back the ashes.

Although generally seen as being a more affordable funeral cremation, people choose a direct cremation for many different reasons, including family and friends being unable to attend, cost implications or that the person who passed just didn’t want a traditional funeral service.

Direct cremations are split into two different categories – unattended and attended.

Unattended Direct Cremations

Unattended direct cremations are funerals with no service or ceremony, meaning that after our initial meeting (either in person, on the phone or online), the next time that we would need to meet is when we are handing back the ashes.

Some funeral directors who offer these cremation services may send the deceased away to various crematoriums across the UK depending on price, but we know how important it can be to have your loved one stay local to South Wales. So, we give you the option to have the direct cremation in Cardiff, Barry, Caerphilly or further afield, meaning that even our direct cremations are tailored to suit you.

Attended Direct Cremations

Some crematoriums offer the service of an attended direct cremation. These happen at the beginning or the end of the day, and offer families a much-reduced time slot in order to say their goodbyes, often in a more personal way. Once everyone is in the chapel, there is enough time for a short reading (like a poem or prayer) or a piece of reflection music, before being led back outside.

We have found that this can be a good compromise between a loved one who didn’t want a traditional funeral and the family who want to say their goodbyes. If you want any more advice on how these can work, please get in touch.

Just because the service is relatively simpler, it does not mean that we compromise on the service we provide. We are just as open and transparent as with all of our other funeral options. We give you and your family the same level of help and guidance, whilst providing your loved one with the care, attention and sensitivity you would expect from any Ivor Thomas Funerals.

We offer direct cremation services all across the UK but specialise in Cardiff, Barry & Caerphilly and the surrounding areas. Contact our friendly team today.

FAQs & Advice

A burial is when someone is laid to rest within a grave. Cremation is when the person is cremated.
We understand things can change so as long as you let us know ASAP, we will always endeavour to make any changes you request.
Disbursements are essentially third party costs, the most common within a funeral being the burial or cremation fee, minister and doctors fees. Unlike most funeral directors, we include these within our fee to simplify the costs.
